in clay.…
Tactile, intimate, and often a little odd, In Clay is a space for my sculptural work in ceramics and mixed media. These small forms explore gesture, emotion, and storytelling through texture and shape, often intended for public spaces or unexpected encounters.
A SMall Slice
A Small Slice is a site-responsive sculpture designed for public spaces like Regent’s Canal in my neighbourhood, a place shaped by movement, pause, and quiet observation. The figure, sculpted in warm, orange tones, offers a slice of fruit to no one in particular, or perhaps to anyone who chooses to stop and see it.
This small gesture of sharing is inspired by the poem "Oranges" by Gary Soto, and by the quiet generosity embedded in daily rituals. Around the figure are miniature, abstracted objects, things that might seem unimportant at first glance. Each object represents a “non-important” moment people treasure most, an ode to the quiet details that make up a day. Each item, each fragment, captures a fleeting joy or a soft memory — from a favourite spoon to the sound of someone humming nearby. Together, these objects form a quiet archive of overlooked beauty.
Part sculpture, part public offering, A Small Slice asks: what if we treated these small moments like gifts?
YoU’ve Got CoMPany
An exploration on the porous nature of identity, this wall-mounted sculpture explores what happens when the boundaries of the self begin to dissolve. The central figure is caught in a state of stillness and overwhelm, as small, indistinct forms swarm and nest into its head and hands, blurring the line between internal and external, self and other. Through texture and unsettling intimacy, the piece reflects on how we absorb the presence of others, willingly or not, and how identity is constantly shaped by invisible, overlapping forces.
I have tried to explore our porous identities and the quiet chaos of coexistence: emotional, psychological, imagined.
